BEEDC Overview Summary

#BeyondTalk where immersive learning, innovation, and product development meet.

Coming to Cincinnati in 2016, the Black Economic & Entrepreneurship Development Conference & Expo is an innovative outcome driven conference that leverages the organic processes of convening, through action, some of the greatest minds and advocates within the tech and community development space. Immersive and experiential, the BEEDC is a year long experience that works to strengthen the innovation ecosystems within African American and communities of color. The BEEDC engages economists, economic professionals, small business owners, community advocates, and makers within the technology and cottage industries in focused learning, strategic networking, and collective product development.

Additionally, four Cincinnati-area companies are among the nation’s highest-grossing black-owned businesses.
  • Hightowers Petroleum Co.
  • World Pac Paper LLC
  • Megen Construction Co. Inc.
  • The Che International Group

Why Cincinnati?

Research indicates that entrepreneurship provides a strong wealth advantage to communities of color who actively create an ecosystem of commerce. According to a recent study released by the Center for Global Policy Solution, the median net worth of African American business owners is over 10 times higher than the median net worth of African Americans. Generally, entrepreneurship undoubtedly provides increased wealth outcomes for African Americans. Cincinnati has a growing, innovative and diverse business community within Cincinnati's communities of color.

Most recently, the city of Cincinnati has already pledged to create more jobs, retain more jobs, and invest more on buildings and equipment, than in all of 2014, according to the region’s top development agency.

The goal of the BEED Conference in Cincinnati is to create a community and foster business partnerships. By providing individual economic development education within the context of how the individual impacts local, regional, national, and global economies, BEED Conference will work to show participants how to leverage their existing individual and community resources to empower them financially, grow their businesses and businesses within the community to help create an overall stronger community.

Four Categories of Tracks

Entrepreneurship Development:
Educating entrepreneurs, business owners, and professionals within existing businesses on effective and innovative strategies, processes, cultures, technologies and best practices that help ensure a sustainable business. Participants are guaranteed implementable take-aways within each track. Presented by an array of industry experts, areas covered include start-ups, business structures, financial management systems, business management, marketing, PR, gamification, franchise growth, direct sales models, funding strategies, and collaboration.

Youth Koded Language:
A creative fun hack where youth ages 11 through 18 will explore the language of technology, entrepreneurship, and economics (innovation economy) while also exploring aspects of African linguistics that impact African American and American slang. Then, they’ll use their creativity to develop a “koded” language to help youth to more easily understand and adapt the technical language that they will need to successfully navigate the fields of technology, business, and economics.

Economic Development:
ScaleUp Partners, LLC, as architects of economic inclusion frameworks, will introduce a shared economic vision, strategy and blueprint at a local level that includes and empowers all Americans with access to opportunity to reach their highest potential. Inclusive Competitiveness is the solution, framework, and instruction. ScaleUp Partners will present workshops, seminars, and forums that introduce and incorporates the new economic narrative, identify inclusive opportunities and strategies to connect the disconnected and to build Inclusive Competitiveness Frameworks

Community:
Engaging our community stakeholders who may not be economists or business owners, but who understand they still play a vital role in producing sustainable businesses and a thriving economy. Within a space that is made to emulate a local community, interactive workshops, hands on virtual demonstrations, and compelling lectures allow participants to gain a clear understanding of business frameworks, how to effectively mobilize community, recycle dollars within their communities, best support our youth within STEM and STEAM education, create and participate in angel investing, and more...
